cumpleanos de mi madre

Yes, my title is in Spanish...oh well. Anywho, last night we celebrated my mom's 45th birthday, with the exception of my mother (who refused to celebrate birthdays after she turned 40). It was fun. My sister made chicken and broccoli...and I tried to help...I mostly just got the ingredients out and measured. The chicken and broccoli was so yummy!!! I love that stuff.

After dinner we watched a Glenn Beck special on Communism...it was pretty intense. You will have to look it up and watch it. Makes you think twice about big government...which is a dangerous thing, in my opinion. Well, enough there...back to birthday.

After the program we lit the candles on the cake. Sadly, our mother wouldn't let up put 45 candles on the cake...something about the house burning down or something. So we had to settle with putting just 19 candles on the cake...sad, sad. The cake was very good...chocolate fudge cake...again, yummy!

Now the funny part of the night. My niece had been acting up the whole time my mom was over...she was tired and when she gets tired she can get...annoying I guess. She will start misbehaving and such. Well, my grandpa had her over at the table in her seat and was feeding her cake. What was so funny was the fact that she was starting to nod off. My grandpa would put a piece of cake in her mouth and she would somewhat chew it and then she would lay back somewhat falling asleep. This went on for a few minutes. My mom and I were laughing so hard...and yet we were trying to stay quiet so we wouldn't wake her. It was just too cute!

They took my niece to bed very soon after (poor girl), then my mom opened her cards and presents. It was late by then so afterwards she went home and I collapsed into bed (darn antibiotics, still...see previous post on antibiotics).

It was a fun day...and it is always good to see my mom.

Another band I love is Lifehouse. They are a great band. This is one of their newer songs (I say newer, because it is to me...it's been out for over a year now). It's called "Broken." The video is pretty interesting, too.

antibiotics

This past week has been pretty hectic. On Monday I went to the doctor to get something checked out. Doctor thinks it's an infection and prescribed some antibiotics. Now, for some reason, my body doesn't respond well when I take any type of pill. If there are side effects listed, I am sure to feel at least 1 or 2 of them. And that's how I'm feeling right now with these antibiotics...I've been feeling somewhat "fuzzy" in the head and have felt somewhat nauseous as well (no fun). Probably one of the reasons why I'm not much of a pill-popper. Medicine supposed to make you feel better, no worse....right?

Well, there's my nonsensical ramble of the day. Ciao.

personal progress

As of Sunday, I have decided to work on and complete my Personal Progress again. In the LDS Church there is a program in the Young Women's (for girls ages 12-18) that focuses on, well, personal progress. What the young women do is complete value experiences for each value as well as a value project. There are now eight values (there were only seven back when I was in Young Women's). They are: Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice & Accountability, Good Works, Integrity, and Virtue (the new one). The value experiences often involve scripture reading, journal writing, doing service, improving oneself spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and intellectually.

Besides the addition of a new value, the other values haven't changed that much (referring to the value experiences). So why am I doing this again if I already completed it over four years ago? One reason is it will give me a foundation upon which I can set personal goals to improve myself (which I do need). Also, I have had struggles with testimony and faith, and I think that doing Personal Progress again will help.

I'm looking forward to it and hope for some great experiences. I may even post some stuff on here.

favorites of 2009

So I was thinking about the year 2009 and all the "favorites" that I tend to have, whether it be a song, band, or a hobby that I spent more time doing that usual. So here is a list of my "favorites" from 2009.

song: "Again" by Flyleaf; "Unbreakable" by Fireflight

band: It's a close one between Flyleaf and Fireflight

color: still blue...I'm kind of liking a midnight blue and a sky blue

time of day: nap time

hobby: photography with drawing coming in a very close second

car: mine, because it's still running (thank goodness)

nickname: that would have to be "Brit-bee," that's what my little niece calls me, and now the rest of my family has adopted it

day: days away from school and work...maybe Friday

movie: That would definitely be "The Blindside" the best movie I saw the whole year. I loved it!!! It was just one of those "feel good" movies and it was funny, too. Plus, I love Sandra Bullock...she pulled that part off well

animal: hmm...that one is tricky...I would have to say a white tiger...they are so magnificent and fierce

TV show: even though I don't watch a lot of TV (never have time to), that would be Law and Order: SVU, NCIS, and shows on HGTV such as Designed to Sell, Design on a Dime, and Deserving Design

class: I would have two for that one: my digital imaging class this past semester, and my professional writing class, also last semester

church calling: enrichment committe member (now called relief society meeting committee or something)

sport: now one that I play--volleyball all the way; one that I watch: gymnastics and, although these haven't happened yet, I love to watch the Winter Olympics which are coming up really soon!

physical activity: running

game: Farkle, a very fun dice game that requires some skill and a lot of luck


Well, that's about all I've got for tonight.

meteors

I am just enchanted by the stars and anything that comes in the night sky. I know where to find several constellations during a certain time of the year. I know the different phases of the moon. I've even stayed up late, or rather, all night for a lunar eclipse or meteor showers.












Now, speaking of meteors, I saw two meteors on my drive home from school tonight. One was while I was driving down Bangerter Highway, and the other while driving up the canyon. The first meteor came straight down (so vertically) and it was very bright. It lasted only a matter of seconds, but it looked awesome. The second one went more horizontal and it took me a minute to realize it was a meteor. It wasn't as bright as the first one I saw, but I still found it to be a pleasure to the eye.

Now, I would say it is rare to see two meteors within about 15 minutes of each other unless there is a meteor shower or something. I haven't heard of any meteor showers going on lately, and I usually follow those kinds of things. I also saw a meteor a couple night ago while driving home from work. Three meteors in four days...that's pretty cool.

Now, for those of you who don't know, there is a difference between a meteor and a meteorite. It's pretty simple. A meteor is some sort of debris that enters the Earth's atmosphere and burns up before it hits the Earth. A meteorite is debris that enters the Earth's atmosphere, will all burn, but there will still be remaining debris that impacts the Earth's surface. Some are small, and others, in the past, have been pretty big.
